We are always looking for high quality instructors to join out team.  Please contact us for more information.

Instructors must be certified by the Michigan Secretary of State after completing an approved Instructor Preparation Course. The basic requirements to start a course are:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Have held a Driver’s License for at least 5 years
  • Be able to pass a criminal background check

Courses will vary some depending on scheduling, but usually last about 3 months and meet on evenings and/or weekends. The course is designed to prepare you for teaching in the classroom and car with students. Compass Driving School does not offer these courses internally, but can help find a class. The cost is usually $1,500 – $2,000. Please reach out if you’d like more details on this part!

You will see incredible growth in skill and confidence as you mentor young drivers with the wisdom and knowledge your years of experience have given you! You will teach larger groups in the classroom and groups of two students in the car. The group instruction and more personal connection in the car give a great opportunity to communicate, and also connect with students on more of an individual level.

They can be either! We work with Instructors who are Full-Time, Part-Time, and Seasonal. During the school year we work with students after school hours through the evening and on Saturdays. In the summer we follow more of a typical 1st shift schedule with some flexibility for instructors to determine their own hours.

Absolutely! Students will always need to learn the basic skills to operate a vehicle safely. Compensation is competitive and working with students is very rewarding!
